Common Ground is a national project in Scotland that aims to promote open discussion and debate about tackling political violence, violent extremism and terrorism.
The main partners involved in establishing Common Ground are the Scottish Preventing Violent Extremism Unit, Scottish Police Services, Digital Media Cast, national and local public sector agencies, affected and interested communities and voluntary sector organisations.
The Common Ground project recognises that many public agencies, communities and individuals across Scotland are nervous about talking openly on these issues. So, a policy has been developed to assure people that the principles of confidentiality are central to this project.
Confidentiality Policy
Common Ground is a project which strives to promote open, honest and informed debate about and engagement in, preventing violent extremism and terrorism.
To this end, the philosophy of Common Ground is to give people the confidence to engage in this sensitive topic and to enable a wide array of views and opinions to be expressed, even if they are very critical views.
However, Common Ground partners recognise that because of the sensitive nature of these topics, many people who may want to engage may feel nervous or suspicious about doing so and may have worries about disclosing personal information.
Thus, one of the key principles of the project is confidentiality.
This means that people can engage on an anonymous basis if they wish and that personal information, if given, will be stored securely and will not be shared or disclosed to any third parties.
